The Speyside Way is one of Scotland's finest national trails, officially opening in 1981 as the second trail to launch, just a year after the West Highland Way. It provides a beautifully varied journey through the heart of Scotland's most famous whisky distilling region.
Starting near the Moray Firth, the route gradually leads you into the majestic Cairngorms, a region steeped in natural wonders. The trail itself showcases a variety of landscapes. It winds along the tranquil banks of the River Spey, meanders through vast open moorland, and follows sections of an old railway trackbed, blending historical charm with natural beauty.
Along the way, enjoy overnight stops in iconic locations like Craigellachie, known for its historic charm, and Ballindalloch, home to one of Scotland’s most scenic distilleries. The trail continues to Grantown-on-Spey, a delightful town renowned for its Smokehouse and welcoming atmosphere, before concluding in Aviemore at the foot of the Cairngorm National Park.Â
In addition to the official trail, we offer our expertly curated Speyside Whisky Trail, tailored to feature as many must-visit distilleries as possible.
