Camino Le Puy Way: Stages 5 & 6

  • The beautiful countryside in the heart of Gascony, with its rolling hills and vineyards
  • Savouring a glass of floc, the local aperitif based on the same recipe since the 16th century
  • Exploring the old town of St Jean Pied de Port, the end point of the Camino Le Puy Way
  • The gorgeous landscapes of La Gers which is often called the “Tuscany of France”
  • Beholding the snow-capped vistas of the distant Pyrenees Mountains
  • Become immersed in the Basque culture, history and language
Stages 5 & 6 of the Camino Le Puy Way takes you through the regions of La Gers and Gascony, the cultivated landscapes of the Armagnac vineyards, the Béarn, the French Basque and into the foothills of the Pyrenees. Throughout the surrounding countryside are vineyards as this region is well-known for its Armagnac and floc, an aperitif which has had the same recipe since the 16th century. The heart of Gascony is also famous for the Dukes of Gascony and Alexandre Dumas, the novelist who wrote the Three Musketeers and immortalized the hero D’Artagnan. Midway through your tour you stay in Montreal du Gers, one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France and a traditional bastide town. The tour finishes in St Jean Pied de Port, a fortified town only 8km from the Spanish border and the old capital of the Basque province of Lower Navarre.
